Dr. Robert Cumming
Acupuncture Doctor

Dr. Robert Cumming is a chiropractor with a holistic approach to musculoskeletal, pain and nerve conditions. Dr. Cumming became a chiropractor in 1989 and uses a combination of traditional chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue treatment and Graston technique to treat his patients. GAP
In 2000, Dr. Cumming became certified in acupuncture, which he has found to be a fascinating and a useful adjunct to traditional chiropractic care. Dr. Cumming employs acupuncture to treat a myriad of musculoskeletal conditions including: headaches, low back and neck pain, radicular symptoms (irritated nerve pain), tennis elbow, osteoarthritis as well as joint pain and swelling.
Dr. Cumming two main approaches to acupuncture:
- Ear acupuncture (auriculotherapy): from historical origins based in ancient China with additional discoveries by both French and German doctors. In this form of treatment, the needles are inserted only on the surface of the ear and left in for 20-30 minutes. During that time the patient is free to change position or body orientation without causing irritation or discomfort.
- Whole body acupuncture: from historical origins based in ancient China. In this approach needles are inserted in various locations on the body and left in for 20-40 minutes. During that time the patient must remain relatively still in order to not irritate the needles or cause discomfort. Further, depending on the location and condition being treated it may require some level of disrobing and gowning to access the treatment area.
Both approaches can be equally effective and selection depends on patient preference, the condition being treated and the need for mobility during treatment (i.e., range of motion testing). Additionally, for the very young or those not comfortable with needles, Dr. Cumming also employs various non-needle acupuncture techniques.
