Kyla Brown has been a registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychology since 2013. She graduated with a Master’s of Science in Marital and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University in 2008 and began her career with Palliser Regional Schools. In 2013, Kyla started her employment with Alberta Health Services working in School Based Mental Health, and more recently with adolescent and adult clients in community health clinics. In her private practice, Kyla has worked primarily with adult clients.
Different types of trauma affect people differently. Kyla views mental health through a trauma informed lens. She sees humanity as whole, yet also vulnerable to experiencing wounding and trauma. She is trained in treating trauma through EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) and is currently undergoing training in Somatic Experiencing.
In her practice, she draws from PolyVagal theory to provide universal knowledge about the incredible capabilities of our nervous system and how it is shaped by our internal and external environments.
Kyla works primarily with individuals as much of the therapy modalities she uses are practiced in this way. Despite not doing a lot of relationship therapy, Kyla believes that the work we do internally to heal our nervous system, has a large impact on how we relate to others and the world around us.
