Marie Pauline Gerona

Pauline was born and raised in the Philippines. She graduated from Riverside College in the Philippines with a five-year Bachelor Degree in Physical Therapy. Her fifth year of education was spent gaining clinical experience in hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation facilities. Following this, she completed an additional five months training in orthopaedics and trauma care.

Certified in Myofascial Cupping

Pauline has extensive training and experience in many forms of massage including Swedish massage, Traditional Thai massage, Balinese massage, Schweitzer Deep Tissue Therapy, Hot Stone massage, and relaxation massage. Pauline has been determined to continuously enhance her skills and provide innovative treatment by attending various workshops, seminars and trainings. Her additional training includes: Traditional and Thai foot reflexology, CranioSacral therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Active Isolated Stretching, Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) of Upper/Lower Extremities and the Spine, and TMJ mastery exploring intra-oral techniques used to treat masticatory dysfunction. 

Experience

Pauline has been practicing for nine years at Active Back to Health Centre. She is passionate about helping her patients maintain and enhance their health. She incorporates myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and stretching in her treatment. She loves to treat patients of different ages, pre and post-natal, athletes, chronic conditions and those who are under high levels of stress. She’s also passionate about educating patients on proper home care and posture awareness.

In her free time you can find Pauline being active. She enjoys weight lifting, indoor spinning, barre fitness, boxing, hiking and yoga. She loves to travel both for pleasure and study. She has been to Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and India. Pauline believes in living life to the fullest and experiencing the world as much as you can. In 2013, Pauline was introduced to yoga and became dedicated to her practice. In July 2015, she completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training in India. Yoga has taught her to follow her heart – this has been a life changing experience for her.

Steve has been part of ABTHC since 2005, treating clients of all ages, including: recreational athletes, pregnancy cases, accident recovery …or those just seeking relief from the stresses of ‘work-a-day’ life. Prior (and in the midst of this), he has worked in varied massage environments, including fitness centres and the Heli-ski industry.

He finds that the key to recovery and optimal health lies in developing a trusting relationship, where both parties are committed in their respective roles towards improvement! Through a strategic approach, which can be at once both assertive AND relaxing, he is confident in providing very effective results.

Being fit and healthy enough to enjoy the natural environment around us, is Steve’s goal for his entire life …& for you too! He continues to be an active participant in: skiing, cycling, tennis, hockey and paddling. Traveling the world remains a goal in ‘mid-pursuit’.

Elizabeth Ruggles

Elizabeth is a highly skilled Massage Therapist with well over 27 years of experience in the field. She began her career in 1996, starting with a one-year relaxation massage course before progressing to a two-year advanced therapy program, which led to her advanced Orthopaedic/Remedial Massage Therapy certification in 1999. Elizabeth’s areas of specialization include treating injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents, work-related incidents, and sports activities. She is also proficient in providing Relaxation, Sports, and Pregnancy massage, and holds certifications in Myofascial Cupping, Laser Therapy and Usui Reiki levels 1 & 2.

Presently, Elizabeth serves as the Manager of our Massage Therapy department, where she utilizes her many years of experience and her passion for continuing education to ensure smooth and efficient operations. She is dedicated to helping her clients lead healthy and pain-free lives and takes great pride in providing exceptional care and support.

In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and pet dog, as well as pursuing various hobbies such as cooking, baking, reading, traveling, working out, and running.

Sammantha Beers

Sammantha was born and raised in New Brunswick and has lived in Calgary since 2013. She graduated from MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy in 2019 and received her Graston certification in 2020. She has been with Active Back to Health since Spring of 2022.

Sammantha has extensive training and experience in many forms of massage therapy South Calgary including Therapeutic, Swedish, and Relaxation. She believes in tailoring individual treatments and treatment plans to each client to help them achieve their health care goals.

In her spare time, she loves exploring Calgary with her dog, practicing yoga, and experimenting with different recipes in the kitchen.
